Case Study: Business Case Development

Client: Large Data Processing Organisation

Our client, a large transactional based data processing organisation responsible for processing over 70 million payment transactions per annum, required an analysis of their resourcing needs across key parts of their business. The aim was to identify the specific skill sets available versus those required, and then provide detailed costings to implement all proposals.

 What We Did:

Prospectus were engaged to undertake an operational review of how the client administered its application and payment functions. We were then retained to support the development of a detailed business case and implementation plan seeking increased resources from its parent body.

The scope of the operational review included:

  • A review of the organisation’s strategy and planning
  • A high-level assessment of current organisation structure
  • A high-level assessment of as-is processes
  • An assessment of existing skills mix and staffing
  • An assessment of IT infrastructure and capability

The output from these reviews was a gap analysis that objectively demonstrated specific resourcing deficits that needed to be filled if stated objectives and targets were to be achieved.   It also set out a series of operational recommendations to maximise the use of existing resources.

Project Outcomes

The organisation secured a large portion of the resources required to address a number of key skill and financial deficits. Supports were also provided to allow them implement many of the operational recommendations contained in our report.

``Prospectus were very thorough and professional in how they went about supporting us. At every point they challenged our thinking and business assumptions which meant that whilst we may not have ended up with what we originally expected, it was exactly what we needed.``
